AMERICA: LET’S NOT BE A SHIP OF FOOLS!

ANY WAR IS AN ATTACK ON THE BELIEF THAT WE ARE "SPIRITUAL BEINGS".

All people who oppose war are wounded with each new injury. Actually, even those who are convinced that this war is necessary are also wounded with each new injury to any human because of violence. This war is killing the spirits of every human. Those focused more on their material needs may not feel it as strongly, however the impact is equally as strong. War is not civilized; we are now following the rule of the jungle (survival of the strongest).

Many of us are captive to the idea of a just war. If god actually said "thou shalt not kill", then there is no war that is morally justifiable. The real question that is at stake at this moment of history is whether we are "material beings" or "spiritual beings". Our only real hope for peace is to redefine the debate. We must reaffirm our faith that we are "spiritual beings.

Briefly, western scientists have convinced themselves that humans are entirely "material beings" and that spirit is merely an illusion. This has led to a series of events that has adversely affected western society. Although, our scientific progress was faster than in the eastern cultures; it was at the cost of our soul. Initially, alternative medicine was called holistic medicine because the recently renewed interest in ancient literature, especially relating to oriental healing practices has made it painfully obvious that western society has no treatment related to spiritual healing whereas this is predominant in the east. Many of the initial holistic centers were even names things like ‘the center for body and soul’.

Although the presence of soul or spiritual life may be difficult to prove scientifically; when we deny it, we place ourselves into the position of having to choose competition over cooperation. This is because material beings see might as right and domination (central control) as a sign of truth or being right. If our leaders believe that we are simply "material beings" then the best case scenario is a totalitarian police state used to enforce the appearance of peace. This will not be true peace because we will be troubled spiritually because of compromised truth, justice and liberties.

The alternative option would be to regard ourselves to be "spiritual beings" even without scientific proof. In this scenario the method of choice for problem resolution would be dialogue and cooperation with the goal of balance and harmony. This is because "spiritual beings" must acknowledge physical reality because it is part of their lives. This consciousness of the unity of mater and spirit results in a world view where things that may appear to be in opposition are not enemies but are actually parts of a larger whole (All of this seems to be a puzzle to us now).

The fact that we must confront is that there are two ways of seeing ourselves. Those who are proponents of war cannot see their spiritual aspects. They feel justified to use propaganda to enlist us to do their bidding because they don’t believe we have souls either. The illusion that we need to dispel is that our leaders think like us. They don’t. Not until we acknowledge this then the entire world will become spiritual once again.
